UMass Memorial Health Care to implement Accenx' interoperability platform for physician practice integration

Accenx(TM), a leading provider of health information exchange and interoperability solutions, announced today that UMass Memorial Health Care, clinical partner of University of Massachusetts Medical School and the largest healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts, has selected the Accenx Exchange(TM) interoperability platform to rapidly establish a health information exchange with its community physicians.

UMass Memorial was recently recognized by Information Week as among the most innovative healthcare organizations in the country, and is committed to achieving the benefits of improved quality, enhanced patient safety, and greater efficiency inherent from realizing the vision of connected healthcare. UMass Memorial services cover the complete health care continuum, with UMass Memorial Medical Center, its academic medical center, member and affiliated community hospitals, freestanding primary care practices, ambulatory outpatient clinics, home health agencies, hospice programs, a rehabilitation group and mental heath services.

"UMass Memorial wants to make it as easy as possible for physicians and other organizations to work with us," said Willis Chandler, vice president of business development for UMass Memorial Health Care. "We selected Accenx because their approach to interoperability is comprehensive, flexible, and easily adopted by both small and large physician practices with minimal effort - all essential ingredients to rapid rollout and broad adoption."

Accenx Exchange is a wide-area integration platform for creating health information exchanges delivered over the internet as a set of secure, interoperability services. Utilizing a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, Accenx Exchange will enable UMass Memorial to deliver clinical results directly to the physician practices EMR, as well as receiving orders directly from the physician.

"Accenx shares UMass Memorial's vision and excitement for the potential of connected healthcare to fundamentally improve the quality and efficiency of healthcare delivery in central New England," stated David Cheng, CEO at Accenx. "Equally important, by delivering interoperability as a service, we allow UMass Memorial to become more connected without detracting from their other equally high priority information technology initiatives."
