An eight-section instructional manual, newly issued by Principal Investigators Association (PIA), will help biomedical scientists submit more competitive applications for the highly-sought R01 grants awarded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the federal government's biggest funder of medical research.
"Competition among researchers for limited grant money is tougher than ever," says publisher Leslie C. Norins, MD, PhD. "On top of that, scientists must cope with the many requirements of a new NIH application format. We found there to be a great need for independent coaching information to help researchers present the strongest case they can to be among the 20 percent of applicants who win funding."
Each section instructs on a separate, important part of the R01 grant application. These include: Biosketch, abstract, environment, research plan, budget and compliance with the review process. With more than 25 years of continuous NIH funding, Consulting Editor Dorothy Lewis, PhD, served as peer reviewer.
Begun in November 2010, the first chapter was published in March 2011. Today's announcement marks the completion and publication of the entire 8-chapter set. Hundreds of "sets-in-progress" were ordered during the months-long writing and production process.
The 290-page manual is currently available at an early-bird rate of $399 (regular price $599). A printed, spiral bound version is available for $75 extra. PIA provides buyers a 100 percent money-back guarantee if they're not fully satisfied.
This instructional manual is independent and not connected with, or endorsed by, NIH. All opinions expressed are those of the authors and not of any agency or government official. Therefore, it gives impartial advice and recommendations because PIA does not have to stick to "the party line."
