Ohio changes Medicaid drug program, N.C. weighs cuts in Medicaid personal care services

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Ohio's seven Medicaid managed care plans this month will make changes in the prescription drug plans that cover about 1.5 million people, although many of those beneficiaries will not face increased costs.

FDA requests additional data on CMC section of NDA for taliglucerase alfa from Protalix BioTherapeutics

Protalix BioTherapeutics, Inc. announced today that, in connection with the New Drug Application (NDA) filed by the Company in December 2009 for taliglucerase alfa for the treatment of Gaucher disease, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has requested additional data regarding the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Controls (CMC) section of the NDA.

VHGI sells Secure eHealth to WNDM

VirtualHealth Technologies, Inc. announced today that it has completed the sale of secure data and messaging provider, Secure eHealth, LLC, along with certain other technology assets to Wound Management Technologies, Inc. as previously announced in the January 11 press release. In addition to the sale of Secure eHealth, VHGI has also transferred all of the intellectual property assets of the real-time prescription drug monitoring business conducted by its subsidiary, VPS Holdings, LLC to Wound Management.

Humana announces consolidated revenues of $7.63 billion for fourth-quarter 2009

Humana Inc. today reported diluted earnings per common share (EPS) for the quarter ended December 31, 2009 (4Q09) of $1.48, as compared to $1.03 per share for the quarter ended December 31, 2008 (4Q08), reflecting lower PDP claim expenses in 4Q09 than in 4Q08.

The Bismarck Tribune reports on a new scheme "asking seniors to pay up for not having Part D coverage. The scammers have been calling beneficiaries saying they owe a penalty for not having the Part D prescription drug coverage and that they need to pay the fine right away, said a release from the office of the Insurance Commissioner" (1/20).

ABC News interviewed President Barack Obama, who said: "The Senate certainly shouldn't try to jam anything through until Scott Brown is seated. People in Massachusetts spoke. He's got to be part of that process. ... I think point number two is that it is very important to look at the substance of this package and for the American people to understand that a lot of the fear mongering around this bill isn't true. I would advise that we try to move quickly to coalesce around those elements of the package that people agree on" (Stephanopoulos, 1/20).
