Recent release: Kaiser Family Foundation releases report comparing AIDS responses of U.S., other high-income countries

The Kaiser Family Foundation on Tuesday released a report titled, "Responding to AIDS at Home & Abroad: How the U.S. and Other High-Income Countries Compare," which "examines the United States' response to HIV over the last 30 years compared to ... seven other similarly situated nations -- Australia, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom," according to the report's webpage.

Survey offers solutions to meet the needs of young people with HIV

Very few children are born with HIV in Thailand today. During the 1990s, the Thai government implemented a vast prevention programme in order to control the epidemic that was rife in the North of the country. The reduction of mother-to-child transmission was one of the major successes resulting from these measures. However, before this programme was established, numerous infants were born with the infection.

Community health campaigns reduce incidence of HIV virus levels in rural Uganda

Population-wide levels of HIV virus dropped substantially between 2011 and May 2012 in a rural part of southwestern Uganda, the site of two community health campaigns led by doctors at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (SFGH) and Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

Human defensins, aptly named antimicrobial peptides, are made in immune system cells and epithelial cells (such as skin cells and cells that line the gut). Insight into possible new approaches in vaccine development for blood-borne infections and HIV

FDA approves 152 antiretroviral drugs in association with PEPFAR to treat HIV/AIDS

Today, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Margaret A. Hamburg announced the agency has approved or tentatively approved a total of 152 antiretroviral drugs in association with the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to treat those infected with HIV/AIDS in countries that lack the tools needed to fight the AIDS epidemic.
