BIND Biosciences commences BIND-014 Phase 1 clinical trial in cancer

BIND Biosciences announced today that it has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess the safety, tolerability and pharmacokinetic profile of BIND-014 in cancer patients. BIND-014, the first product candidate to enter clinical evaluation from BIND's broad proprietary Medicinal Nanoengineering platform, is a targeted polymeric nanoparticle containing the cytotoxic agent, docetaxel.

Elevated rates of 'Sarcoid Like' Granulomatous Pulmonary Disease found in WTC responders

Mount Sinai researchers coordinating the largest clinical study to date of "Sarcoid Like" Granulomatous Pulmonary Disease in World Trade Center (WTC) responders have found that the rate of the condition was increased in this group as compared to the records of pre-9/11 FDNY personnel. The study is published online in the American Journal of Industrial Medicine.

Blocking activation of delta-PKC enzyme could protect lungs from neutrophil-mediated damage

All of us may be able to breathe a little easier now that scientists from Pennsylvania have found a new therapeutic target for controlling dangerous inflammation in the lungs. A new research report in the January 2011 issue of the Journal of Leukocyte Biology (http://www.jleukbio.org) suggests that blocking the activation of an enzyme called delta-protein kinase C (delta-PKC) could protect the lungs from neutrophil-mediated damage, which can result in out of control inflammation.

Isis commences ISIS-EIF4ERx Phase 2 studies in non-small cell lung cancer and prostate cancer

Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced the initiation of two Phase 2 studies of ISIS-EIF4ERx in patients with non-small cell lung cancer and prostate cancer. These studies are part of Isis' broad Phase 2 development program designed to evaluate ISIS-EIF4ERx in multiple types of cancer. ISIS-EIF4ERx targets eukaryotic initiation factor-4E (eIF-4E), a traditionally "undruggable" target that is thought to promote tumor growth and metastasis in many cancers.
