AngioDynamics commences treatment in NanoKnife IRE System pilot study for HCC

AngioDynamics today announced the first patient treatment and growing enrollment in a pilot study of the use of the Company's NanoKnife® Irreversible Electroporation (IRE) System in the treatment of early stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), or primary liver cancer. This clinical trial is being conducted under the supervision of Professor Jordi Bruix of the Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer Group of the University of Barcelona and Professor Riccardo Lencioni of the University of Pisa School of Medicine.

Study underscores potential for VBL Therapeutics VB-111 as broad-spectrum cancer therapy

VBL Therapeutics today announced positive results from preclinical and Phase 1 studies evaluating the company's lead anti-cancer agent, VB-111 - a first-in-class, targeted biological agent shown to work via dual-action, anti-angiogenic and vascular disruptive mechanism of action - in metastatic cancer. Preclinical data evaluating VB-111 in a comprehensive set of in vivo studies employing the Lewis Lung metastasis mouse model showed the compound to be safe and specific, with a 90% reduction in tumor burden of lung metastases after only one injection.

First case of treating cystic fibrosis and Crohn's disease with infliximab

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common life-threatening autosomal recessive disease in Caucasian children; it has an incidence of 1 case in every 2500 children born alive. CF involves an anomalous function of the exocrine glands, caused by a mutation of a gene (cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator, CFTR) located on chromosome 7, which codes for a protein involved in ion transport through the cell membrane.

Positive data from NewLink Genetics Phase1/2 study of HyperAcute-Lung cancer immunotherapy

NewLink Genetics Corporation announced today data from a Phase 1/2 study showing that patients with progressive advanced non-small cell lung cancer treated with its HyperAcute®-Lung cancer immunotherapy experienced favorable median survival. Newly announced budget projections show the need to raise Kansas' cigarette tax by $1, according to a coalition of public health groups. Studies show increasing the cigarette tax by $1 would bring in $74.7 million in needed revenue, while raising the tax at a similar rate on smokeless tobacco and other tobacco products would raise an additional $23 million.

Genentech's Tarceva receives FDA approval as maintenance therapy for advanced NSCLC
