Research indicates possible danger of cancerous tissue development by using stem cells

Research work carried out at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem arouses a cautionary warning in the growing field of the development of stem cells as a means for future treatment of patients through replacement of diseased or damaged tissues by using the patient's own stem cells. The research indicates a possible danger of cancerous tissue development in the use of such cells.

Reata Pharmaceuticals and Abbott today announced data from a Phase 2b study which suggests that bardoxolone methyl, an investigational treatment for chronic kidney disease (CKD), may reduce the stage of CKD and improve estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and other measures of kidney function in the majority of patients receiving the drug.

Surveyed cardiologists, PCPs perceive Crestor comparable to Lipitor in ability to reduce mortality

Decision Resources, one of the world's leading research and advisory firms for pharmaceutical and healthcare issues, finds that in the treatment of dyslipidemia, surveyed cardiologists and primary care physicians (PCPs) now perceive AstraZeneca's Crestor's ability to reduce mortality comparable to Pfizer's Lipitor. This finding has changed from Decision Resources' 2009 analysis in which surveyed cardiologists viewed Lipitor as significantly better on this end point.
