CTI submits expanded PIP to EMEA for pixantrone MAA for relapsed or refractory, aggressive NHL

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. announced today that it has submitted an expanded Pediatric Investigation Plan to the European Medicines Agency, as part of the process for its submission for a Marketing Authorization Application for pixantrone in the E.U. for the treatment of relapsed or refractory, aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL).

APP receives FDA marketing clearance for preservative-free Heparin Lock Flush Solution

APP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals Holding, Inc., announced today that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market preservative-free Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP in two dosage strengths, 10 USP Units/1 mL and 100 USP Units/1 mL, and will soon launch these single dose vial presentations.

An African study has found a link between a difficult childhood and alcohol consumption as a teenager. Researchers writing in BioMed Central's open access journal Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health studied the association between adverse childhood experiences and drunkenness among 9,189 adolescents aged 12-19 years living in Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, and Uganda.

Asking parents just two simple screening questions could help health care providers and social workers to easily and quickly identify families whose young children are suffering from hunger, enabling early interventions that could prevent serious health consequences, according to a new study led by University of Maryland School of Medicine researchers. Newborns of non-smoking moms exposed to secondhand smoke during pregnancy have genetic mutations that may affect long-term health, according to a University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health study published online in the Open Pediatric Medicine Journal. The abnormalities, which were indistinguishable from those found in newborns of mothers who were active smokers, may affect survival, birth weight and lifelong susceptibility to diseases like cancer.
