Lantheus Medical Imaging reports new Phase 4 data from DEFINITY study

Lantheus Medical Imaging, Inc., a worldwide leader in diagnostic medical imaging, today announced new data from a Phase 4, open-label safety study evaluating the effect of DEFINITY® Vial For (Perflutren Lipid Microsphere) Injectable Suspension, an echocardiography contrast agent, on pulmonary and systemic artery hemodynamics in patients with either normal or increased baseline pulmonary artery pressure.

Updated Phase 1 trial results of blinatumomab in patients with relapsed NHL presented at EHA 2010

Micromet, Inc. today announced the presentation of updated results from a Phase 1 trial of the Company's lead product candidate blinatumomab (MT103) in patients with relapsed non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. A high objective response rate was maintained among patients treated with blinatumomab using an adapted schedule, comparable to that previously reported in patients receiving constant dosing.

Telormedix initiates Phase I/II clinical study of TMX-101 for treating NMIBC

Telormedix, a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on targeted immunity in the treatment of cancer and other diseases, today announced the start of a Phase I/II clinical study of TMX-101 for the treatment of Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer. TMX-101 is an immunotherapeutic compound and Telormedix has already recruited the first patients for this clinical study.

New research evaluating substantial disease burden of PNH presented at European Hematology Association

Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced new research evaluating the substantial disease burden of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria, an ultra-rare blood disorder, in patients worldwide. The International PNH Registry, involving 580 patients from 99 sites in 14 countries as of May 2010, found that the debilitating symptoms and life-threatening complications of PNH are similar across patient populations around the world.

Patients beginning therapy on popular osteoporosis drugs discontinue treatment within 6 months: Report

According to a recent analysis by SDI, a leading healthcare market insight and analytics firm, about half of patients beginning therapy on popular osteoporosis drugs discontinue their treatment within 6 months. Amgen's Prolia, which was recently approved for postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk of fracture, or patients who could not tolerate other osteoporosis therapies, is the newest product to enter the market. Prolia differs from existing therapies as it is given every 6 months via injection.

Intellipharmaceutics International Inc. today announced that is has filed an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for a generic of Protonix® (delayed release pantoprazole sodium). A new database of more than 4,000 Alzheimer's disease patients who have participated in 11 industry-sponsored clinical trials will be released today by the Coalition Against Major Diseases (CAMD). This is the first database of combined clinical trials to be openly shared by pharmaceutical companies and made available to qualified researchers around the world.

A new report providing state-by-state analyses of substance abuse and mental illness patterns reveals that despite wide variations among the states in the types and levels of behavioral health problems they experience -- every state suffers from these problems. For example, among those aged 12 and older, Iowa had less than one third the current illicit drug use rate of Rhode Island (4.1 percent vs. 13.3 percent) - yet Iowa's population aged 12 and older was among the group of states with the nation's highest levels of people participating in binge drinking in the past month (27.2 percent).

Synexus invests in Doppler Ultrasound for 7 UK-based Dedicated Research Centres

Manchester-based Synexus, the world's largest multi-national company dedicated to the recruitment and running of clinical trials, has recently invested in Doppler Ultrasound equipment for each of its seven UK-based Dedicated Research Centres. Study finds survival disparities among patients with colorectal cancer

Disparities in cancer stage and treatment are the main reasons why Medicaid-insured and uninsured rectal cancer patients are twice as likely to die within five years as privately insured patients. That is the conclusion of a new study published early online in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society. Because poorer survival among rectal cancer patients without private insurance is largely attributable to later cancer stage at diagnosis and inadequate treatment, disparities may be lessened through health care reform.

UJI participates in project OPTIMI for early detection of depression

Treatments for mental illnesses are based on medicines and on therapies. Nevertheless it is not being done much to develop effective systems to prevent the appearance of such illnesses. In January starts the European initiative OPTIMI to contribute to the early detection of depression. The research group Labpsitec of the Department of Basic and Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology at the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, takes part in the project with the design of evaluation strategies for people in situation of risk.
