NanoBio Corporation announced today that it has been awarded a seventh U.S. patent covering its novel nanoemulsion technology. The new claims encompass methods of treating Herpes Simplex I infections, including herpes labialis (commonly referred to as cold sores), using NanoBio's proprietary anti-infective nanoemulsion product candidates.

Daiichi Sankyo reaches agreement with Apotex to settle Evoxac patent litigation

Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. and its parent company, Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd, have reached an agreement with Apotex Inc. and Apotex Corp. to settle their patent litigation involving Apotex's challenge to Daiichi Sankyo's U.S. Patent Number 5,340,821 covering Evoxac® (cevimeline HCl).

AG Mednet receives patent for diagnostic imaging studies

AG Mednet, the world's largest diagnostic imaging network, announced today that the U.S. Patent Office had granted the company patent number 7765109, "Systems and methods for providing diagnostic imaging studies to one or more interpreters and selecting one or more of the interpreters to provide an interpretation of the images based on one or more variables." GenSpera acquires patent application for medical imaging technology

GenSpera, Inc. announced that it has acquired a patent application from the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Copenhagen for technology relating to medical imaging. The technology incorporates derivatives of thapsigargin, the active ingredient in GenSpera's therapeutics program, coupled with its patented tumor-targeted peptides, to create cancer-specific imaging compounds.

MabCure files provisional patent application for ovarian cancer diagnostic antibodies

Biotechnology company MabCure, Inc. today announced the company has filed a provisional patent application for its ovarian cancer diagnostic antibodies with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The filing was based on positive results of a recent study that showed MabCure's tumor-specific monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) successfully identified ovarian cancer in blood (94 percent) and distinguished it from benign tumors of the ovaries or healthy blood obtained from men and women.

Cornerstone licenses global rights to alpha-7 technology to Targacept

UK Court gives Smith & Nephew right to Appeal in RENASYS patent litigation

The Advanced Wound Management division of Smith & Nephew, Inc., a subsidiary of Smith & Nephew plc. notes the finding of the Patents Court of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales in the patent litigation brought by Kinetic Concepts, Inc.. In that case, the Court found that parts of the Smith & Nephew RENASYS™ EZ and RENASYS GO Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) Systems have infringed the patents EP0853950 and EP0777504 in the United Kingdom. Today the Court has given Smith & Nephew the right to Appeal this decision. Our full range of RENASYS products remains on the market."

Kinetic Concepts enters injunction against Smith & Nephew to prohibit infringement of two patents

Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today announced that the High Court of Justice Chancery Division, Patents Court in the United Kingdom has entered an injunction against Smith & Nephew plc prohibiting infringement of two KCI patents relating to negative pressure wound therapy ("NPWT"). The Court stayed the injunction pending appeal, which is expected in October of this year.

USPTO grants IRIDEX patent for Adjustable Laser Probe for use in vitreoretinal surgery

U.S. Court of Appeals rules against Eli Lily's claims in Gemzar patent lawsuit

Sun Pharma today announced that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed the judgment of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan against Eli Lily and Co. finding certain claims of U.S. Patent No. 5,464,826 ("'826 patent") invalid. The appeal arose out of a lawsuit that Eli Lilly filed against Sun Pharma in connection with Sun Pharma's submission of an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) for a generic version of Gemzar®.
