Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology (JMIG) has published a study in its March/April issue which concluded that establishing a referral relationship with an interventional radiologist for comprehensive uterine myoma (fibroid) treatment supports a trusting, collaborative, long-term, noncompetitive ''win-win'' relationship between the gynecologist and radiologist.

EntreMed commences Phase 2 study of ENMD-2076 for platinum resistant ovarian cancer

EntreMed, Inc. today announced the initiation of a multi-center Phase 2 study with its lead oncology product candidate, ENMD-2076, in patients with platinum resistant ovarian cancer. The study will be conducted at up to six sites in the United States and Canada. In addition, EntreMed received a No Objection Letter (NOL) from the Therapeutic Products Directorate of Health Canada on its Clinical Trial Application to conduct the Phase 2 clinical trial in ovarian cancer patients.

The global financial crisis should not be allowed to prevent further investments in health and human well-being, said Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, Executive Director of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund. The number of women dying from pregnancy-related causes has dropped by more than 35 percent in the past 30 years - from more than a half-million deaths annually in 1980 to about 343,000 in 2008, according to a new study by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington and collaborators at the University of Queensland.

Overcoming resistance - new options for the treatment of ovarian cancer

Research on the development of a new therapeutic agent for the treatment of particularly aggressive ovarian cancer has produced some very promising initial findings. In laboratory tests, scientists have succeeded in reducing the resistance of the tumour cells to a natural resistance mechanism with the help of a monoclonal antibody. The results of this project, which was funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF, have just been published. The project also succeeded in establishing a hitherto unknown connection between so-called "natural killer cells" and the regulated death of cancer cells.
