AlphaRx, Venturepharm sign supply agreement for ARX1088's API

AlphaRx Inc. announced today that it has signed an agreement that provides long-term supply of the active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for ARX1088, an orally active interferon inducer intended for the adjunctive treatment of Hepatitis in China and other emerging markets. Under the agreement, Venturepharm will be the primary supplier of AlphaRx's worldwide requirements for the compound.

John Howell, CEO of Arrayit Diagnostics, Inc., a majority-owned subsidiary of Arrayit Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: ARYC), today formally commented on the anticipated timeline for commercialization of its microarray-based OvaDx(TM) Pre-Symptomatic Ovarian Cancer Blood Test, which is currently advancing through late-stage development - the rights to which have been assigned exclusively to the Company by Arrayit Corporation.

Therapure Biopharma to fill/finish nimotuzumab at its Canadian GMP certified fill suite

David Allan, Chairman and CEO of YM BioSciences Inc. and Thomas Wellner, President and CEO of Therapure Biopharma Inc. today announced the signing of an agreement under which Therapure Biopharma will provide fill and finish services for nimotuzumab, the humanized monoclonal antibody licensed to YM's majority-owned Canadian subsidiary, CIMYM BioSciences Inc., by the Centre of Molecular Immunology (CIM).

Avecia Biologics to be acquired by Merck

Merck & Co. Inc., (operating in the United Kingdom as MSD) and Avecia Investments Limited today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement by which Merck will acquire the biologics business of the Avecia group through a Merck affiliate (Merck Sharp & Dohme (Holdings) Limited or "MSD"). Avecia Biologics is a contract manufacturing organization with specific expertise in microbial-derived biologics. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

BDSI's BEMA Buprenorphine Phase 2 study meets primary efficacy endpoint

Promising breakthrough in adjuvant development may lead to cost-effective therapeutic vaccines

It should be possible to use therapeutic vaccines to create both cheap and effective drugs for diseases like cancer and allergies. One problem in developing such vaccines has previously been the lack of adjuvants, substances that make vaccines more effective. However, there has now been a major breakthrough in this area. The study, led by Swedish scientists at Uppsala University, is published in the December issue of the journal Vaccine.
