Birth season and heart disease risk – an association?

A new study published in the British Medical Journal December 2019 suggests a novel risk factor for heart disease – the season in which the individual is born. The large study carried out in the US shows that people born in either spring or summer had a significant, though slight, increase in the risk of fatal heart disease, when compared to the autumn-born. Why this should be so is unknown as of now.

People with peanut allergies avoid tree nuts despite being non-allergic to them

A new study reveals that 4 in 10 people who have peanut allergies choose not to consume tree nuts, despite not having allergies to these nuts. The study titled, “Real world tree nut consumption in peanut-allergic individuals,” was published in Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in the latest issue. The journal is the scientific journal of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).

Low diet quality, night eating during pregnancy linked to postpartum weight gain and retention

A study led by researchers from KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) has found evidence that pregnant women who consume more of their daily food intake after 7.00 pm, and who consume lower quality diets during pregnancy, are more than three times more likely to experience postpartum weight retention of five kilograms or more, 18 months after giving birth.
