Ark. lawmakers override veto of bill banning most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy

Arkansas' Republican-controlled Senate voted to override Democratic Gov. Mike Beebe's veto of a bill that will ban most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The chamber also approved a bill -- and sent it to Beebe -- that would ban most abortions when a fetal heartbeat can be detected -- typically after 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Prime Time can lead to long-term reductions in sexual risk among vulnerable youth

More consistent use of condoms, oral contraception or both was reported by a group of teenage girls who took part in a youth development intervention aimed at reducing pregnancy risk in high-risk adolescents, according to a report of a randomized controlled trial published Online First by JAMA Pediatrics, a JAMA Network publication.

A first-of-its-kind study by researchers at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC) indicates that healthy, obese, reproductive-age women who use long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) containing the hormone progestin have a slightly increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes when compared to those who use non-hormonal contraception.

Celgene receives FDA approval for POMALYST to treat multiple myeloma

Celgene Corporation today announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved POMALYST brand therapy (pomalidomide) for patients with multiple myeloma who have received at least two prior therapies including lenalidomide and bortezomib and have demonstrated disease progression on or within 60 days of completion of the last therapy.

Hoping for universal family planning by 2030

Until then, Congress offered Iowa up to $35 million to provide temporary insurance for people whose health prevent them from buying coverage on their own.
