NIH awards NeoStem a GO grant to investigate the potential of stem cells in regenerating bone

NeoStem, Inc. CSL Behring - Canada Research Chair to develop therapies for treating bleeding and immune system disorders

The Centre for Blood Research (CBR) and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia have announced the establishment of the CSL Behring - Canada Research Chair in Endothelial Cell Biology. Over the next five years, the CBR and CSL Behring Canada, the biopharmaceutical company co-funding the chair program, will collaborate on the research and development of new therapies for patients with bleeding and immune system disorders.

Increase in omega-3 fatty acid levels can prevent strokes, according to research

Research led by Hernan A. Bazan, MD, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Section of Vascular Surgery, at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans School of Medicine, has found that unstable carotid artery plaques - those in danger of rupturing and leading to a stroke - contain more inflammation and significantly less omega-3 fatty acids than asymptomatic plaques.

Five-year follow-up study reveals the efficacy of OsseoSpeed implant

The five-year follow-up study was made by Dr. Steveling and co-workers at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Heidelberg University in Germany. The conclusion is that the OsseoSpeed implant shows very good results also in compromised sites when using an early loading protocol.

The related report by Alblowi et al, "High Levels of TNF-α Contribute to Accelerated Loss of Cartilage in Diabetic Fracture Healing" appears in the October 2009 issue of the American Journal of Pathology.
