PsoriasisDX Genetic Test for Psoriatic arthritis launched

The first genetic test for Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is being launched today by PsoriasisDX, LLC, a subsidiary of molecular dermatology research and development innovator PharmaGenoma, Inc. PsA is a progressive irreversible joint disease associated with psoriasis. It is estimated that 20% to 40% of psoriasis patients will eventually develop PsA.

NanoBio presents preclinical data of NB-201 for treating burn wounds at the 2009 ICAAC

NanoBio Corporation today announced compelling preclinical data for NB-201, a nanoemulsion-based topical lotion for the treatment of burn wounds. In preclinical studies, NB-201 dramatically reduced the severity of burn wound infections as well as inflammation following thermal injuries. The research was conducted at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor as a collaborative effort between the University and NanoBio.

Fair conducted for free skin cancer screening in Louisville

More than 11,000 Americans die each year from skin cancer. Yet when detected early, skin cancer has a cure rate of 99 percent. That's why dermatologists from the American Academy of Dermatology's National Melanoma/Skin Cancer Screening Program conducted free skin cancer screenings at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville, held Aug. 20-30, 2009.

FDA approves Theravance's VIBATIV for treating complicated skin and skin structure infections

Theravance, Inc. (NASDAQ: THRX) and Astellas Pharma US, Inc. announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved VIBATIV™ (telavancin) for the treatment of adult patients with complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, both methicillin-resistant (MRSA) and methicillin-susceptible (MSSA) strains.

Valeant develops an acne drug with a low concentration of BPO combined with clindamycin

One of the most widely prescribed drugs for acne vulgaris is benzoyl peroxide (BPO). However, at concentrations of 5-10%, BPO has the potential for skin irritation and dryness leading to poor patient compliance. Increasingly, BPO is combined with clindamycin in a fixed combination where the efficacy effects of the two ingredients are synergistic.
