AMG 386 demonstrates antitumor activity in Phase 2 trial involving patients with recurrent ovarian cancer

Amgen today announced that AMG 386, combined with paclitaxel, demonstrated antitumor activity in a randomized Phase 2 trial involving 161 patients with recurrent ovarian cancer. The results are being presented for the first time in an oral presentation at the 2010 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting.

Exelixis reports updated interim data from trials of XL765 small molecule inhibitor of PI3K and mTOR

Exelixis, Inc. today reported updated interim data from three ongoing trials of XL765 (SAR245409), an orally available small molecule inhibitor of phosphoinositide-3-kinase (PI3K) and mTOR. Activation of the PI3K pathway is a frequent event in human tumors, promoting cell proliferation, survival, and resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

NewLink Genetics reports positive data from Phase 2 trial of HyperAcute-Pancreas cancer immunotherapy

NewLink Genetics Corporation today announced positive Phase 2 clinical trial data of its HyperAcute®-Pancreas cancer immunotherapy combined with standard adjuvant chemotherapy in patients with surgically resectable pancreatic cancer. The study results suggest a potentially longer disease-free survival and one-year overall survival in this patient group than reported in previous studies of surgery and adjuvant therapy alone. These data were presented in a poster session at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting.

Selenium not beneficial in reducing risk of lung cancer development

AVEO's initiation of SCH 900105 Phase 2 trial in non-small cell lung cancer triggers $8.5M milestone payment

AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing cancer therapeutics, today announced that it has initiated a Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating SCH 900105 (also referred to as AV-299) for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. The initiation of this trial triggers an $8.5 million milestone payment by Merck to AVEO resulting from a 2007 agreement between AVEO and Schering-Plough (now Merck).

Infinity announces Phase 2 clinical trial results of IPI-504 for NSCLC

Infinity Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today reported the results from its Phase 2 clinical trial of IPI-504, the company's i.v.-administered Hsp90 chaperone inhibitor, in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A team of investigators at Rational Therapeutics, Inc. and the Malcolm Todd Cancer Institute (Long Beach, Calif.) has reported that functional profiling using ex-vivo analysis of programmed cell death (EVA/PCD) can be used to prescribe treatment regimens that double the response rate and survival in patients with Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The findings of their phase II clinical trial will be presented on Sunday, June 6th at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago.
