Oncology nurses explore how to better combat patient fatigue

They are key members of the healthcare team who face ongoing challenges on how best to provide optimum care to patients affected by cancer. Oncology nurses at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey continually strive to improve patient care and have recently explored how to better combat patient fatigue, the importance of documenting sleep-wake disturbances and the development of a toolkit to help patients better follow their oral treatment schedule during clinical trials.

New collaboration to expand vaccine approaches for melanoma

Aduro BioTech, Inc. announces a collaboration with Charles G. Drake, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Oncology, Immunology and Urology at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center to evaluate the therapeutic approach of anti-PD-1 in combination with one or both of Aduro's vaccine technologies based on live, attenuated Listeria monocytogenes and STING-activating adjuvants.

UB researchers develop aniontransporters to trigger cancer cell apoptosis

The journal Accounts of Chemical Research, which has a profound impact on Chemistry and other related sciences, publishes on its current issue the article "Anion Transporters and Biological Systems", signed by Professor Ricardo Pérez Tomás, from the Department of Pathology and Experimental Therapy of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Barcelona, Roberto Quesada, from the Department of Chemistry of the Sciences Faculty at the University of Burgos, and Philip A. Gale, from the University of Southampton, in the United Kingdom.

Preclinical studies show bladder cancers, mesotheliomas respond to treatment with ADI-PEG 20

Scientists from academic institutions reported at the 2013 annual American Association for Cancer Research meeting, results from preclinical studies which showed that certain bladder cancers and mesotheliomas have metabolic changes and are more likely to respond to treatment with ADI-PEG 20 (pegylated arginine deiminase) if they are deficient in the enzyme, argininosuccinate synthetase.

Omeros' GPCR platform unlocks new drug targets against multiple sclerosis

Omeros Corporation today announced positive data in the most commonly used model for studying the clinical and pathological features of multiple sclerosis (MS), further advancing its development program of GPR17-targeting compounds for the treatment of MS. Compounds previously discovered by Omeros that inhibit GPR17, an orphan G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) unlocked by Omeros, significantly improved function from experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in mice.
