Medtronic DBS Therapy improves motor function in patients with advanced Parkinson's disease: Study

In the largest, randomized, controlled study of deep brain stimulation for Parkinson's disease, Medtronic DBS Therapy was shown to improve motor function for up to two years in patients with advanced Parkinson's disease, showing equally strong efficacy for the two most common surgical targets used for the therapy.

Biovail: BLS, Kyowa Hakko Kirin sign license agreement

Biovail Corporation today announced that its subsidiary, Biovail Laboratories International SRL, has entered into a license agreement with Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. BLS has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to commercialize products containing istradefylline - a new chemical entity targeted for the treatment of Parkinson's disease.

Johns Hopkins professor receives $1M MSCRF grant to study glial cells for treating myelin disorders

AFFiRiS AG will explore ProBioGen's proprietary Human Artificial Lymph Node Technology (HuALN) as analytical tool for its AFFITOME®-based vaccination concept. Under the contract with ProBioGen, AFFiRiS will evaluate the HuALN technology as a human organoid model to investigate drug-related effects in the context of the human immune system in order to select vaccine candidates best suited to be applied in humans.

Survey: 58% of Australians worry about brain health, age-related degenerative brain disease

The national survey was commissioned by leading medical research institute Neuroscience Research Australia and polled 1000 Australians aged 18 to over 75.

Weill Cornell Medical College today celebrated the start of construction on its new Medical Research Building, a state-of-the-art facility that will more than double the institution's existing research space. The 18-story, $650 million building is the centerpiece of Weill Cornell's $1.3 billion Discoveries that Make a Difference Campaign, the country's largest for a medical college. A total of $1 billion has been raised toward this goal in a record time of less than four years.
