Preschoolers from low-income families living in cities that took part in a two-year community-wide intervention to foster healthy eating and lifestyle habits consumed fewer sugary drinks, got more sleep, and showed improvement in weight, according to a study led by a researcher at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center.

UCLA-led study reveals possibility of CMV and HIV transmission from mothers to infants

HIV-positive women with cytomegalovirus, or CMV, in their urine at the time of labor and delivery are more than five times likelier than HIV-positive women without CMV to transmit HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, to their infants, according to a UCLA-led study.

Higher paternal age translates into geekier sons !

A new study has found that men who delay having children are more likely to have “geekier” sons. The “Geek Index” devised by the King's College London was tested on kids of older fathers and it found that these kids were more intelligent and focused and less bothered about being included and fitting in. The mothers did not seem to have an impact and daughters too did not have an impact from being born to older fathers says the study.

Children born late preterm have greater risk of recurrent hospitalization for respiratory illness

A new study of children up to 2 years of age showed that those born late preterm (34-36 weeks) had a significantly greater risk of recurrent hospitalization due to respiratory illness compared to those who were born full term (>37 weeks).
