Endocrine Society urges physicians to apply new insights into the role of beta-cells in type 2 diabetes

A new consensus statement published in the September, 2010, issue of The Endocrine Society's Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM) finds that the increasing recognition that beta-cell failure occurs much earlier and severely than commonly believed suggests that regular glycemia screening, early identification of patients at metabolic risk and prompt and aggressive intervention deserves greater emphasis.

e-MDs, an industry leader in the development and implementation of electronic health record (EHR) and practice management (PM) solutions, announced they have been named a selected EHR vendor and Implementation Optimization Organization (IOO) by the Massachusetts eHealth Institute (MeHI). The Institute will serve as a Regional Extension Center (REC) in Massachusetts, working to facilitate the adoption of EHR technology by the state's providers. North Shore-LIJ Health System granted approval to extend cardiac surgery program to Southside Hospital

The New York State Hospital Review and Planning Council today approved North Shore-LIJ Health System's request to extend its open-heart surgery program to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, bringing one of New York's most renowned cardiothoracic surgery programs to Suffolk County's south shore. The council's action will be forwarded to State Health Commissioner Richard Daines, MD, for final approval.
