Dermetel holds 5K road race to raise funds for production of skin cancer awareness documentary

Non-profit organization Dermetel announced today that they will begin production on a short documentary to raise awareness about skin cancer. The documentary aims to focus on the often-parasitic relationship between indoor tanning bed companies and young women, and highlights how skin image insecurities fostered by an unhealthy advertising and indoor tanning bed culture often lead to skin cancer diagnoses.

A radiotherapeutic bandage is being evaluated by researchers for efficacy against squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in an animal model. These results could confirm the viability of a new and improved strategy for the radiotherapeutic treatment of skin cancer in the clinic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Oct. 27 that it has approved, for the first time, an oncolytic (cancer-killing) viral therapy in the United States. The drug was approved for use against late-stage melanoma, a deadly skin cancer that can be difficult to treat.

Amgen today announced that the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use, the scientific committee of the European Medicines Agency, has adopted a positive opinion recommending that IMLYGIC (talimogene laherparepvec) be granted approval for the treatment of adults with unresectable melanoma that is regionally or distantly metastatic (Stage IIIB, IIIC and IVM1a) with no bone, brain, lung or other visceral disease.
