Watson Pharmaceuticals to acquire U.S. rights to Columbia's bioadhesive progesterone gel products

Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced an agreement to expand their Women's Health brand product portfolio with the acquisition of the exclusive U.S. rights to Columbia Laboratories, Inc.'s bioadhesive progesterone gel products currently marketed under the trade names CRINONE® and PROCHIEVE® for the indications of infertility and secondary amenorrhea.

Androxal Type C meeting: Repros Therapeutics receives FDA’s version of minutes

Repros Therapeutics Inc. today announced that the Company has received the FDA’s version of the minutes of the Type C meeting held on January 25, 2010. The minutes confirmed the Company’s interpretation of the points the Agency made during the meeting. In correspondence from the FDA prior to the meeting the Agency noted that they could not currently agree with the Company’s stated indication for the use of Androxal® in the treatment of secondary hypogonadism in men wishing to preserve fertility.

CPEX Pharmaceuticals' fourth-quarter 2009 revenues up 23%

CPEX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today reported financial results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2009. For the quarter CPEX reported revenues of $5.2 million and a net loss of $498,000. For the year CPEX reported revenues of $18.7 million and a net loss of $3.0 million.

Antares Pharma completes enrollment in Phase 3 clinical trial of Anturol for OAB

Antares Pharma, Inc. announced today that it has completed enrollment in the double-blind portion of the Company’s Phase 3 clinical trial of Anturol™, its transdermal oxybutynin ATD™ gel for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB). Top line data from this pivotal trial, which is being conducted under a Special Protocol Assessment (SPA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is expected in the third quarter of this year.

Castrate-refractory prostate cancer (CRPC), which is characterized by tumor progression despite castrate levels of testosterone, develops in many prostate cancer patients treated with androgen-deprivation therapy. Standardized guidelines for treatment of CRPC are lacking and healthcare professionals must consider several factors, including serum markers, patient age and pre-existing comorbidities when choosing between second-line hormonal therapy and chemotherapy for treatment of CRPC.

BioSante Pharmaceuticals' ongoing LibiGel Phase III clinical development program: Additional positive data

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., today announced additional positive safety data in its ongoing LibiGel Phase III clinical development program. For the second time, unblinded data have been reviewed by the independent DMC of the LibiGel Cardiovascular and Breast Cancer Safety Study. Based on this review, the DMC once again unanimously recommended continuation of the study as described in the FDA-agreed LibiGel safety study protocol, with no modifications.

Testosterone replacement therapy may benefit male cancer survivors with testosterone deficiency

A new study has found that many male cancer survivors who develop testosterone deficiency after receiving chemotherapy or radiation therapy have an impaired quality of life and reduced energy levels. Published early online in Cancer, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study suggests that young male cancer survivors with testosterone deficiency may benefit from testosterone replacement therapy.

Pfizer Inc. and Auxilium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that Pfizer received notification from the European Medicines Agency that the Marketing Authorization Application (MAA) for XIAFLEX™ (collagenase clostridium histolyticum), a novel, first-in-class, biologic for the treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture (a condition resulting in the contracture of the fingers into the palm), has completed the validation phase successfully. As a result, the scientific/technical review procedure commenced on 21 January 2010.

Arcadia Capital Advisors files intent to purchase remaining CPEX shares at $14 per share

CPEX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today confirmed that Arcadia Capital Advisors, LLC and its principal Richard Rofé, who hold approximately 12% of outstanding shares, have filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) notice of intention of Mr. Rofé to make an unsolicited contingent offer to purchase the remaining shares of common stock of CPEX for $14.00 per share. Mr. Rofé indicated that any offer would require the CPEX Board of Directors to redeem the Rights under CPEX Shareholder Rights Plan.
