Watson seeks FDA approval to market rasagiline mesylate tablets

Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today confirmed that its subsidiary, Watson Laboratories, Inc., filed an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking approval to market rasagiline mesylate 0.5 and 1.0 mg tablets.

NSSHB study provides update on contemporary Americans' sexual behaviors

Findings from the largest nationally representative study of sexual and sexual-health behaviors ever fielded, conducted by Indiana University sexual health researchers, provides an updated and much needed snapshot of contemporary Americans' sexual behaviors, including a description of more than 40 combinations of sexual acts that people perform during sexual events, patterns of condom use by adolescents and adults, and the percentage of Americans participating in same-sex encounters.

VIVUS announces divestiture of MUSE to Meda

VIVUS, Inc. today announced that it has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Meda - an international specialty pharma company - for MUSE®, transurethral alprostadil, for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Under the agreement, Meda will acquire the MUSE assets including the United States and foreign MUSE patents, existing inventory and the manufacturing facility located in Lakewood, New Jersey.

Medivation and Astellas commence MDV3100 second Phase 3 clinical trial in advanced prostate cancer

Medivation, Inc. and Astellas Pharma Inc. today announced treatment of the first patient in a second Phase 3 clinical trial of the investigational drug MDV3100, which expands the Phase 3 development of the novel, triple-acting oral androgen receptor antagonist into an earlier-stage patient population. Known as PREVAIL, the trial will evaluate MDV3100 in men with advanced prostate cancer who have not yet received chemotherapy. Initiation of the PREVAIL trial triggers a milestone payment to Medivation under its collaboration agreement with Astellas.

Apax Partners today announced that Endo Pharmaceuticals has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Qualitest Pharmaceuticals for approximately $1.2 billion in cash. Qualitest, a portfolio company of Apax Partners since 2007, is the sixth largest generic pharmaceutical company in the U.S.

Today Astellas Pharma US, Inc. announced results of a Phase IV study showing Lexiscan(regadenoson) Injection was comparable to placebo in causing a >15% decrease in forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) in subjects with asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are likely candidates for myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) studies.

The notes are additional notes constituting a part of the same series as the $750 million aggregate principal amount of 7-3/4% senior notes due 2018 issued on August 20, 2010.

Warner Chilcott to acquire U.S. rights to Enablex from Novartis for $400 million

Warner Chilcott plc today announced that it has agreed to terminate its existing co-promotion agreement with Novartis and signed a definitive agreement to purchase the U.S. rights to Enablex® from Novartis for $400 million in cash. Enablex (darifenacin) is a product indicated to treat adults with symptoms of overactive bladder, which had U.S. sales of approximately $190 million for the year ended December 31, 2009.
