Syntermed releases NeuroQ version 3.5 for analysis, image display of brain FDG-PET scans

At the Alzheimer's Association 2010 International Conference (ICAD) July 10-14 in Honolulu, HI, Syntermed, Inc. launched NeuroQ™ version 3.5, a nuclear medicine quantitative software platform for analysis and image display of brain FDG-PET scans. NeuroQ can increase physician accuracy in diagnosing and differentiating the many types of dementia, compared to visual interpretation alone of FDG-PET.

Theragenics signs supply agreement with Oncura for TheraSeed palladium-103 brachytherapy seeds

Theragenics Corporation, a medical device company serving the surgical products and prostate cancer treatment markets, today announced that it has signed an agreement with Oncura, Inc. for the distribution of TheraSeed® palladium-103 brachytherapy seeds. Oncura is a unit of GE Healthcare. Under the terms of the agreement, Theragenics will be the exclusive palladium-103 seed supplier to Oncura, subject to certain pre-existing vendor agreements, for the treatment of prostate cancer in the U.S. and Canada.

Study results show cognitive decline significantly lower among regular tea drinkers

Results of a new study found people age 65 or older who drank tea regularly had 17-37% less cognitive decline compared with people who did not drink tea. The new findings were presented here at the Alzheimer's Association's International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease 2010.

Researchers investigate impact of flavonols on stroke risk

New research has found that people who consume relatively high amounts of flavonols have a lower risk of stroke. Tea was most likely the major contributor of flavonols in the diet, ranging from 30 percent (US) to 70 percent (the Netherlands) of the total intake.

The SNP confers risk of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), early-onset heart attack, peripheral artery disease (PAD), and pulmonary embolism, independent of other known risk factors.
