Some of them could hold the key to developing drugs to fight malaria, a mosquito-borne illness that kills more than 1 million people worldwide annually.

Non-Invasive prenatal blood test to detect chromosomal abnormalities in foetus

Researchers in The Netherlands believe they are on the verge of developing a simple, prenatal blood test that would be able to detect accurately chromosomal abnormalities in the developing foetus. At present, the only reliable way to do this is through amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling, both of which are invasive and carry the risk of triggering a miscarriage.

Astellas presents ASP1941 selective SGLT2 inhibitor Phase 2 study results at 70th ADA

Astellas Pharma Inc. announced that the company presented results from a Japanese Phase 2 study conducted with ASP1941, a selective SGLT2 inhibitor, at the 70th Scientific Sessions of the American Diabetes Association (ADA) on June 26, 2010 (EST). ASP1941 is designed to block the re-absorption of glucose in the kidney and excrete glucose in the urine.
