Major companies in food recalls over mislabeling

It has been reported that food manufacturer Heinz has had to recall some of it's Weight Watchers products because the contents are not those specified on the labels.

Apparently the frozen dinners are mislabeled and contain undeclared milk protein.

The meals which appear to contain sirloin beef and Asian style vegetables, in fact are roast beef in portobello vermouth sauce with broccoli and cauliflower.

The recall has been prompted by concern that the undeclared milk protein can cause a severe reaction in those allergic to it.

The meals are thought to be on sale in Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C.

Those concerned can find more information by phoning the company at 800-551-0140 or visit http://www.foodrecallonline.com or http://www.usda.gov.

Also recalled are 110,000 cases of Pinnacle Foods, frozen Aunt Jemima Cinnamon French Toast and about 26,000 cases of Aunt Jemima "Homestyle'' Low-Fat Waffles.

The labels on the foods do not declare the presence of eggs, posing a serious health risk to those allergic to them.

The french toast carries a "use by'' date of June 12, 2006, or after, and the waffles carry one of Nov. 17, 2006, or after.

The products were distributed to stores across the nation.
