Image Solutions Inc. (ISI), a leading provider of electronic submissions management and publishing solutions for the life sciences industry, has unveiled a prestigious line-up of speakers for its annual eSolutions Conference in Barcelona, Spain, this September to support an agenda aimed at reinventing the regulatory function.
The ISI eSolutions Conference, now in its seventh year, takes place on 29-30 September, at the Spanish city’s Hotel Arts, following the theme, “Accelerating Change in the New R&D Paradigm”.
The annual event is one of the most recognised dates in the calendar for senior-level pharmaceutical executives looking to share ideas with peers, build partnerships with industry thought leaders, and hear from key experts on how they are addressing some of their most pressing challenges.
Those attending in Barcelona this September can look forward to an informative programme, with a keynote address from Dr. Carlos Buesa, Chief Executive Officer of Oryzon Genomics, one of the fastest-growing biotech companies in Spain. Dr. Buesa also serves as vice president of the Spanish biotechnology association, ASEBIO, president of the Association of Catalan Biotechnology Companies (CataloniaBio), and he is a member of the governing body of the Executive Committee of BioRegió de Catalunya, a new regional development model aimed at improving the biotechnology cluster in Catalonia. Dr. Buesa also sits on the boards of other leading biotech companies.
Dr. Buesa got his PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Barcelona, Spain. He has produced more than thirty papers and patents. He developed most of his scientific career in the Pharmacy Faculty at the University of Barcelona. After his PhD, he was awarded an EU post-doctoral fellowship with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ghent in Belgium where later he became Senior Investigator with the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB).
The programme will also provide a forum for a series of candid insights from the coalface, with case studies and presentations from high-profile executives, including:
- David Licht, Senior Director of Global Regulatory & Safety Operations, Allergan
- Meredith Purcell, Associate Director, Global Regulatory Publishing, Allergan
- Ulf Klingnäs, Submission Manager, AstraZeneca

Why Attend?
2009 is set to redefine the structure and dynamics of the pharmaceutical industry in a way not seen since the beginning of this decade. With increased competition, reduced resources, and financial constraints, many life science companies are seeking to reengineer current research and development practices in order to support increased regulatory requirements and complexity; expanded co-development collaboration; and a rapidly changing product development model.
The 2009 programme will incorporate more intimate panel and think-tank style discussions, interactive exchanges with Q&A sessions, alongside the main keynote speeches. The conference agenda will cover the following topics:
- Outsourcing to improve productivity and gain competitive advantage;
- Regulatory information management;
- Consolidating pipelines and submission strategies in an age of mergers, acquisitions, and other types of collaborative partnerships;
- The status and implications of electronic submissions in emerging and expanding markets, such as the BRIC nations.
“We are thrilled by the calibre and range of industry speakers which make up our 2009 conference programme,” said ISI’s European MD Adam Sherlock. “Delegates can expect one of the most stimulating programmes to date, not to mention some fantastic opportunities to meet and share ideas with their peers.”
