The Sensory Research Center (SRC) invites you to a Benefit Concert, Dessert and Auction, featuring LA Collaboration, at Journey of Faith Church in Manhattan Beach, 1243 Artesia Blvd, Manhattan Beach, CA - (310) 372-4641 at 7:00 PM. Mention this article and receive 2 for the price of 1 tickets.
The concert features The Los Angeles Collaboration, which was formed by pianist Duane Funderburk and violinist Alex Russell in 2000. Funderburk serves as the Dean of the School of Music at Azuza Pacific University with a leading program involving over 300 music majors in 5 fields of study, while Russell teaches violin, music theory, and directs the chamber music program. Their music spans a wide spectrum of styles, including classical, sacred, jazz, Broadway and other American music repertoire. In addition to teaching master's classes and lectures, they give approximately 50 performances annually, both in duo recitals and as soloists with orchestra.
The SRC was established by founder Jennifer Hoffiz after the frustration and disappointment of seeing families wanting to participate in the ISP (individualized sensory program), yet not being able to afford it. The disappointment of these families hit close to home as Hoffiz has an autistic child of her own. "Every child with Autism not only needs this program, but should have access to it in order to help them recover," says Hoffiz.
By applying a neurosensory approach to retraining the senses in people with Autism, Down's Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities they have been very effective in impacting their lives in a positive and measurable manner.
Money raised for this non-profit organization will provide scholarships for children to go through the ISP program. To purchase tickets or make a donation, contact J. Hoffiz at 310-698-9008 or log onto www.sensoryresearchcenter.org. Tickets are $20.00/adults and $10.00 children/seniors. (Mention this article and receive 2 for the price of 1 tickets.)
