Top cancer hospitals have Elekta solutions for information management

U.S. News & World Report recently issued its annual list of America's best hospitals and 94 percent of the top cancer hospitals in the country are users of Elekta solutions. For patients throughout the U.S., this means the vast majority of the best cancer treatment facilities also have the best information management, treatment planning and delivery systems available.

"This distinction is a tribute to the enthusiastic leadership and dedicated teamwork of each and every hospital nominated," states Jay Hoey, President and CEO of Elekta North America. "Every day, they demonstrate their commitment to put patients first, and Elekta is honored to be a part of that."

U.S. News & World Report grades hospitals not on routine procedures but on how well they manage complex, demanding situations. The 1,859 hospitals that met the initial selection criteria received a score between 0 and 100. This score was based on the hospitals' reputation, death rate, patient safety and care-related factors such as nursing and patient services. The 50 highest-scoring hospitals were ranked.

These hospitals were ranked in 16 specialties such as cancer, orthopedics, urology and heart disease. Only 174 hospitals - of the 4,861 in the original analysis - scored high enough to be ranked in even one of the 16 specialties. Of these hospitals, an Honor Roll of 21 Best Hospitals was chosen.

Of the 21 top hospitals listed, all provide care with the help of a solution from Elekta. In the top 50 cancer specialty hospitals listed, 47 utilize Elekta equipment or software, including:

  • Monaco(R), an advanced, clinically relevant IMRT planning system that brings innovative concepts to the clinic. Monaco helps make the planning process easier, more straightforward and clinically reliable.
  • MOSAIQ(R) 2.0, a comprehensive oncology information solution that simplifies the management of patients from the moment they enter the cancer center through long-term follow-up. MOSAIQ 2.0 increases process efficiency, allows clinicians real-time access to clinical information and facilitates the highest quality patient care.
  • Leksell Gamma Knife((R)) or Leksell Gamma Knife(R) Perfexion(TM), a non-invasive method for treating brain tumors and other neurological disorders. Finely adapted to intracranial radiosurgery, Leksell Gamma Knife systems are preferred for their accuracy, efficiency and outstanding therapeutic response. 25 of the top 50 hospitals listed (50%) are Leksell Gamma Knife((R)) users.
  • Elekta Axesse(TM), a leading-edge stereotactic treatment system that's perfectly suited for stereotactic radiosurgery procedures anywhere in the body.
