James A. Harris, M.D., director of Hair Sciences Center of Colorado, which specializes in state-of-the-art medical and surgical hair restoration, recently introduced to surgeons around the world his latest advancement in hair replacement, the Powered SAFE Scribe. The product was unveiled to the medical community during the 17th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) held in late July in Amsterdam.
The Powered SAFE Scribe is the latest addition to the integrated SAFE System developed by Harris for application in follicular unit extraction (FUE) surgery. FUE is a hair transplantation surgical method that is minimally invasive, eliminates linear scars and reduces healing time. Because the latest version of the recently introduced SAFE Scribe is powered versus manual, it can reduce the surgical time by half and increase the number of extractions per hour from 200 or 300 to 500-700.
Research and testing have reported results and improvements that make the new powered instrument even more effective than the manual, non-powered SAFE Scribe version.
Other benefits of FUE using the Powered SAFE Scribe for hair restoration include:
- Virtually no pain
- No visible scarring
- Virtually 100% of patients are candidates
- Less follicle damage
- Faster speed means it can potentially reduce the cost of surgery
- Less expense means the procedure can be accessible to more patients
Hair restoration is on the rise. In fact, a recent member survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) – the world’s leading medical authority on hair loss and hair restoration – found that the extrapolated number of hair restoration patients worldwide treated in 2008 was approximately 811,363, up 26% from 2006.
“Consumers are increasingly savvy and careful when making choices about their health options. With hair restoration surgeries and techniques growing dramatically, the Powered SAFE Scribe is being introduced to the marketplace at a particularly fortuitous time. It offers consumers the very latest in hair replacement technology, and therefore, the best possible results available today,” Dr. Harris said.
Dr. Harris is conducting an international symposium on advanced techniques for hair restoration in October 2009 in Denver, Colo., which will feature seminars highlighting the Powered SAFE Scribe.
