TI Pharma: A role model of public-private cooperation and partnership

The Danish Council for Strategic Research is visiting the Dutch Top Institute Pharma (TI Pharma) on Thursday, September 10. The purpose of their visit is to learn about the unique Dutch approach on public-private cooperation and the concrete results that are being booked by this institute. In the past, in the European Council, Denmark has cited TI Pharma as a prime example of public-private collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector and is considering following its lead.

In Denmark, TI Pharma is seen as a role model of public-private cooperation and partnership. "It is incredible how quickly TI Pharma has become established and also what the institute has accomplished in its first few years. The Netherlands initiated a clear strategy to support innovative pharmaceutical research and the government had the courage to reward this strategy with implementation. In European pharmaceutical research, TI Pharma is a role model of public-private cooperation and partnership", says Per Spindler, Board of Directors of the Drug Information Association (DIA) and Director of BioLogue/Danish Pharma Consortium (University of Copenhagen). TI Pharma aims to develop the Netherlands into a European hotspot in innovative pharmaceutical research. Willem de Laat, Managing Director of TI Pharma: "We are excited to be able to share our experience and collaborate with other European countries that want to support top quality public-private partnerships in the life sciences and health field in order to address the most important needs in public health."

The Danish Council for Strategic Research was established in 2004 as an innovation within the Danish funding system for research. The Council consists of a Board and seven Programme Commissions. Within the Council, strategic research has a strong international dimension, with Danish scientists working closely together with the best international researchers.
