B. Braun Medical Inc. (B. Braun) said today healthcare professionals can now place orders for Prontosan(R) Wound Irrigation Solution and Gel with PHMB (Polyhexanide), a solution used for cleaning wounds as well as moistening and lubricating absorbent wound dressings.
A session at the Symposium for Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall Event on September 16 at noon EDT will showcase the new product.
"Prontosan(R) offers a new approach and new hope for patients who suffer from chronic wounds," said Mike Kelly, Director of Marketing, Infection Control Products for B. Braun Medical Inc. "It's effective and easy to use. We anticipate a strong demand for it in the marketplace."
The ready-to-use solution contains PHMB and Betaine, the surfactant for the cleansing and moistening of wounds. PHMB has quickly gained popularity among healthcare professionals as a wound irrigation cleanser. Its non-toxic and biocompatible formula offers excellent skin tolerance.
"Surgical professionals now have a new tool to help them cleanse surgical-sites," said Stephen A. Brigido, DPM, Coordinated Health. "We've found Prontosan(R) to be cost effective and an excellent product for diabetics and other high-risk patients for whom wound management is frequently problematic and even life-threatening."
With a shelf life of 28 days after opening, Prontosan(R) promotes the release of fibrin coatings and residue from wound coatings. The solution's PVC-free and DEHP-free product containers also make it environmentally friendly.
