New Healthier Habits Rewards Program educates families on healthy hygiene routines

LYSOL((R)), the number one pediatrician recommended brand, announced today the launch of the Healthier Habits Rewards Program, an initiative to educate families on healthy hygiene routines. Through the Healthier Habits Rewards program, parents can learn valuable tips to help protect themselves and their children from potential illness-causing germs at home or at school.

As part of the Healthier Habits Reward Program, each month teachers will send parents a letter that provides them with helpful health and hygiene tips from expert pediatricians and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) such as:

  • Hand Washing: According to the CDC, proper hand washing is the single most effective means in helping to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Proper Disinfection: Kids can touch and re-touch more than 300 surfaces in just 30 minutes. Help stop the spread of harmful germs by spraying surfaces and objects with a trusted disinfectant.
  • Healthy Eating: Help prevent the onset of illness by packing your child's lunch with immune-boosting foods like blueberries, bite-sized veggies, whole grain breads and plenty of protein.
  • Kitchen Safety: Keep raw and ready to eat foods separated during storage and preparation to help avoid cross-contamination.

"Practicing good hygiene every day -- such as hand washing and disinfecting commonly-touched surfaces -- is a simple and effective way to help stop the spread of germs," said Ross Ullman, Lysol Marketing Director at Reckitt Benckiser. "During a time when families are very concerned about protecting themselves from germs, such as H1N1, we are proud to provide useful information to help parents and teachers work together to keep children healthy."

In addition, the Healthier Habits Reward Program allows teachers and parents to work together to earn classroom rewards, such as educational books and DVD players, every time they purchase a LYSOL((R)) brand product. Lysol Disinfectant Spray and Lysol Disinfecting Wipes are proven to kill cold and flu viruses, including H1N1. All participating classrooms will be entered into the "Healthy Rewards" sweepstakes to win a $1,000 gift basket, $500 in sports equipment, $250 in educational books and $250 for the teacher to purchase other materials.
