NaviNet, America’s largest real-time health care communications network, and New Jersey’s largest health insurer, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ), announced today an agreement in which Horizon BCBSNJ will use NaviNet’s multi-payer, Web-based portal as its exclusive secure information exchange with providers. With NaviNet, providers will be able to reduce paperwork, simplify the administrative process and reduce expenses by electronically exchanging patient information, claims data and benefit information with Horizon BCBSNJ.
“The ability for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to exchange information more effectively with our network providers will improve the overall efficiency of the health care system and reduce costs for everyone,” said Christy Bell, Senior Vice President, Healthcare Management, Horizon BCBSNJ. “With NaviNet’s portal capabilities, our network physicians will save time and money in interacting with us and we will be better able to serve them and our members.”
More than 70 percent of Horizon BCBSNJ’s provider network already uses NaviNet to exchange information with other regional and national health plans. NaviNet will offer an array of unique services beyond industry standards, including the ability to exchange test results and patient medical history in real-time. Horizon BCBSNJ will roll out its fully branded Web portal through NaviNet Enterprise in 2010.
“We are pleased to welcome Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to the NaviNet Network,” said Brad Waugh, president and chief executive officer of NaviNet. “From day one, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will leverage our established provider network to reach over 45,000 New Jersey providers currently transacting via NaviNet. NaviNet is proud to partner with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey as it becomes a driving force behind health information exchange in New Jersey.”
With the addition of Horizon BCBSNJ, NaviNet becomes the largest health information exchange network in New Jersey, representing 90 percent of commercially insured members in the state.
“We are very eager to begin interacting with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield via NaviNet because it allows us to access a broad range of information for nearly all of our patients from a single Web site in real-time,” said Jeanne Rosser, office manager, Berlin Medical Associates. “We look forward to taking advantage of the NaviNet tools that Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey will provide to help us better manage our patient population.”
