NDS Surgical Imaging to demonstrate ConnectOR G2 medical-grade appliance for operating theaters

NDS Surgical Imaging (NDSsi) announced the preview of the next generation informatics appliance for the minimally invasive surgical suite – ConnectORTMG2. NDSsi will demonstrate how this powerful medical-grade appliance can serve as the visualization informatics backbone for integrated operating theaters, and how minimally-invasive surgical environments can improve overall efficiency with its use. The preview and demonstration will take place at the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Clinical Congress, NDSsi Booth #331, at McCormick Convention Center in Chicago from October 12–14, 2009.

As part of the demonstration, NDSsi will include how the ConnectOR G2 can be used together with NDSsi’s RISE™ software application (Radiology Imaging in a Surgical Environment), ZeroWire® wireless Full HD which is currently in development, and Radiance® Full MMI™ visualization systems, and other technology platforms.

As a medical visualization innovator, NDSsi strives to enable new clinical imaging solutions and fuel collaborative medicine – the ConnectOR G2 is central to this mission as a core platform within the company’s Medical Visualization Informatics (MVI) offering, which helps drive procedural efficacy in the OR by offering the unique ability to connect the realms of PACS imaging, surgical video and medical informatics.

The ConnectOR G2 is a customizable solution that enables routing of virtually any medical imaging source to the surgeon’s field of view and beyond. The innovative informatics platform offers industry-leading HD image routing and HD surgical video streaming over IP networks, and addresses the needs of the surgical suite by delivering the functionality of a typical video rack into one medical grade appliance. At the heart of the company’s “MVI packages,” the ConnectOR G2 works seamlessly with the Radiance line-up of surgical displays by utilizing NDSsi’s Universal Control protocol to elegantly facilitate communication across all components within the visualization sub-system.

Some of the features and benefits of ConnectOR G2 include:

  • Matrix switching functionality that allows any input to be routed to any output simultaneously and independently.
  • Converts any OR video source to DVI, Fiber Optic, or 3G-SDI for easy routing of images to a boom-mounted or wall-mounted display.
  • Streams OR video sources (in HD) and audio to remote locations anywhere via the Internet.
  • Preserves image quality and signal integrity by eliminating the need to run multiple video cables over long distances to a display.

“The ConnectOR G2 is a unique informatics platform that is compatible with endoscopic cameras, fluoroscopes, ultrasound machines, and many other imaging systems offered by the top manufacturers,” said Jens Ruppert, Vice President of Product Management at NDSsi. “This appliance meets the needs of today’s demanding OR environments with a simple and efficient solution.”
