Z-Medica launches QuikClot Trauma Pad

Z-Medica Corporation, a medical device company developing innovative hemostatic agents, today announced the availability of the QuikClot® Trauma Pad™ hemostatic dressing, on display at booth #1721 at the American College of Surgeons 95th Annual Clinical Congress. The new QuikClot Trauma Pad’s 12 x 12 inch size makes it well-suited to control bleeding from large traumatic wounds.

QuikClot Trauma Pad is large hemostatic gauze which is easy to use, safe and effective for controlling bleeding from large traumatic wounds. Its main ingredient is kaolin, an inert mineral that has no known contraindications and accelerates the body’s natural hemostatic process, stopping bleeding within minutes following application. The product does not require any advance preparation, is intuitive in its use and is X-ray detectable. It is available in a double-packed, double sterile foil pouch for aseptic technique or a single-pack option.

“QuikClot Trauma Pad is safe and effective in stopping bleeding from large traumatic wounds,” said Dr. Giacomo Basadonna, Chief Medical Officer, Z-Medica. “The Trauma Pad can treat large bleeding wounds, promotes clotting even in the presence of severe injuries, requires no special preparation and can be easily and safely removed once hemostasis has been achieved.”

At the American College of Surgeons 95th Annual Clinical Congress on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, Dr. Basadonna will present findings on the efficacy and safety of QuikClot in both normal and anti-coagulated hosts during the Perioperative Care session from 8:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.
