24 Hour Data to support breast cancer awareness, to donate 5% of its October sales to NBCF

24 Hour Data today announced its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer, the Dallas-based company will donate 5% of its October sales to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. (NBCF).

"Breast cancer has touched most of us, either directly or indirectly, and we are proud to be supporting breast cancer awareness and early detection this month by donating a portion of our sales to the cause," says 24 Hour Data founder and CEO Sean Wade. Whether it is a tribute to a loved one or to celebrate survivors, every individual and corporation alike has its reasons for participating in National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "My mother is a three year breast cancer survivor, and one of my aunts just recently received her final round of chemotherapy," says 24 Hour Data VP of Operations Jennifer Dycus.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, surpassed only by lung cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as a result of earlier detection through screening and increased awareness, as well as improved treatment, breast cancer incidents as well as deaths from breast cancer have decreased significantly by 1.8% and 2.2% respectively per year from 1998 to 2005 among women. If detected early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer exceeds 98%. "My mom was fortunate enough to be diagnosed at Stage I during a routine mammogram," Dycus says. "Some are not as fortunate. A friend's mother was diagnosed at Stage IV and passed away just days before her daughters 21st birthday."

The average cost of a mammogram is $100.00. By donating 5% of its October sales to the NBCF, 24 Hour Data hopes to provide a free mammogram to at least ten uninsured women.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation's mission is to save lives through early detection and to provide mammograms for those in need.
