American Pathology Partners to deploy Halfpenny Technologies' ITF platform for HIE

Halfpenny Technologies, Inc., a leading health information exchange (HIE) company that enables interoperability between physician electronic medical record systems (EMRs) and hospitals, laboratories and other ancillary service providers, today announced that American Pathology Partners, a nationwide, private diagnostic testing services provider based in Nashville, Tenn., will deploy the company’s Integration Technology Framework (ITF) platform.

“We needed an integration solution that would facilitate connectivity to the wide variety of EMR systems that physician practices use,” said Thanasis Papaioanu, chief development officer for American Pathology Partners. “We chose the ITF platform because of Halfpenny Technologies’ strong history of providing secure and efficient clinical data exchange between incompatible systems. The platform will allow us to receive electronic lab orders and deliver test results directly into a physician’s EMR system regardless of the type of system the practice uses, strengthening our provider relationships.”

The ITF platform enables the sharing of clinical and financial data among disparate, non-compatible systems. Featuring a Web-based interface, the middleware platform supports HL7 and a number of other data formats, including XML, X.12 and ASTM. Lab orders and results are electronically collected and then stored in a repository where they are converted to a standard HL7 format in preparation for distribution. The ITF interface is typically hosted and provided as a SaaS model by Halfpenny Technologies.

“As more and more physician practices implement EMR systems, it will become increasingly important to cost-effectively interface to the many and varied systems available,” added Edward D. Dooling Jr., chief growth officer for American Pathology Partners. “We believe Halfpenny Technologies’ unique combination of technology and clinical expertise will help us bridge the connectivity gap while continuing to deliver the best service possible to our physician clients.”

“We are excited that American Pathology Partners has selected Halfpenny Technologies to facilitate connectivity between their anatomic pathology laboratory information system and their client physicians’ EMRs,” said Jerry Baker, CEO of Halfpenny Technologies. “By deploying our ITF platform, the lab will be able to meet a wide range of clinical data connectivity needs, resulting in streamlined operations, reduced costs and an increased competitive advantage.”
