Texas Sinus Center offers FinESS Sinus Treatment to break the cycle of chronic sinusitis

Dr. James Atkins, founder of the Texas Sinus Center (www.texassinuscenter.com), today announced he is now offering the FinESS® Sinus Treatment, a minimally invasive treatment that breaks the cycle of chronic sinusitis (CRS) at Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio.

“San Antonio is a tough environment for people who suffer from allergies and sinusitis. We are thrilled to offer FinESS as a new treatment option for our sinusitis patients whose symptoms persist or return despite antibiotics or nasal steroids, or who are looking for an effective alternate to more invasive surgery,” said Dr. Atkins. “When patients are suffering from facial pain and/or pressure, recurrent sinus infections and sinus headaches, they may be a fit for this new procedure, which can be done on an outpatient basis. I’ve had patients tell me a week after surgery that they haven’t felt this good in years.”

Developed by Minnesota-based Entellus® Medical, Inc., FinESS is an effective treatment that results in less pain, bleeding and recovery time for patients. In most cases, patients are back to their normal routine within hours, compared to a more painful and longer recovery for extensive sinus surgery. Published clinical results demonstrate the FinESS is an effective treatment that keeps treated sinuses open with significant quality of life improvements.

Unlike traditional sinus surgery, FinESS does not require the removal of delicate bone and sinus tissue. Using local anesthetic with or without light sedation, a micro endoscope and a small balloon catheter, FinESS dilates narrowed sinus passages through a small entry point under the patient’s lip.

Chronic sinusitis affects more than 35 million people in the U.S. and results in more than 500,000 surgeries each year. According to Entellus, Dr. Atkins was the first surgeon in the world to utilize its FinESS Sinus Treatment and today has performed more procedures than anyone in the world. Dr. Atkins and the Texas Sinus Center are located at Foundation Surgical Hospital of San Antonio.
