Sporting Turn the Tables to return for the second time

Stars line up for Cancer Research UK's Sporting Turn the Tables

CANCER Research UK's Sporting Turn the Tables will return for the second time on Monday 18 January 2010, with legends from the world of sport putting some of the nation's favourite sports journalists in the hot seat.

The fundraising event, held in association with Deloitte, will see the sporting pros turning the tables on the journalists as they battle it out over two rounds of questioning. In round one, "The Voice of Golf" Peter Allis will be aiming for a hole-in-one when he gives ITV anchorman Steve Rider a grilling. Round two will see World Cup winning England rugby coach Sir Clive Woodward hoping to score a try against Stephen Jones, The Sunday Times rugby correspondent.

The event will be chaired by sporting icon Dickie Davies, with the Today Programme's Garry Richardson acting as Master of Ceremonies. Frank Bruno will also be making a special appearance.

Sporting Turn the Tables is a spinoff of the charity's hugely successful Political Turn the Tables and raises vital funds for Cancer Research UK's lifesaving work. Since the series began, it has raised over £500,000 to help beat cancer.

Polly Wood, Chairman of Cancer Research UK's National Events Committee, said: "I'm thrilled that Sporting Turn the Tables is returning for a second year. The principle of turning the tables on sports journalists by those normally at the mercy of their criticism appeals to fair minded people of every discipline.

"Last year's cast didn't disappoint, proving sportsmen, journalists and fans alike can be sharp, witty and generous. With another fantastic line up it should be a very entertaining event and raise vital funds to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer."
