Just in time for Christmas, and as a result of a $100,000 Houston
Benefits grant from Humana Inc. earlier this year, Star of Hope Mission
is unveiling a new teen room complete with a lounge area, a big screen
television, Nintendo Wii, computer station, study area and a bookshelf
full of games. Located in the Mission’s Transitional Living Center, the
“Stars of 2morrow Teen Room” will be open daily. The grant also provided
for two vans to shuttle the more than 30 members of the teen program to
and from numerous other activities.
“More than ever, during tough economic times, it is our responsibility
and privilege to help organizations that are doing the good work of
helping those in need. It’s inspiring to see what a single, large grant
like Houston Benefits can do to transform an organization and the lives
it serves.”
“Star of Hope’s history of uplifting Houston’s homeless population is an
inspiration. Humana is honored to assist with Star of Hope’s teen
program, which gives teens education and skills that will lead them to a
successful future,” said Pattie Dale Tye, president, Humana of Houston.

“The Humana Houston Benefits grant immediately elevated the level of
teen services and activities. In our continuing efforts to break the
cycle of homelessness, it’s good to know that there is now a safe place
where teens can get together, learn and have fun,” said Star of Hope
president and chief executive officer Hank Rush. “This vital funding
will significantly advance our program efforts far beyond what would
have taken years to fully establish. We are genuinely grateful for this
extraordinary opportunity to strengthen Star of Hope’s teen program and
appreciate this gift more than words can convey.”
