Hereditary angioedema (HAE) is a disease affecting between 4,000 and 10,000 people in the United States each year, causing recurrent attacks of intense localized edema. HAE can be both difficult to diagnose and difficult to treat. Symptoms of HAE can resemble other more common conditions, such as allergic reactions. In addition, the available treatments for long-term prophylaxis are associated with significant side effects. To overcome some of the obstacles in diagnosis and treatment, physicians need to be aware of the most up-to-date clinical data regarding HAE.
To address the need for current education on HAE management, Robert Michael Educational Institute LLC (RMEI) and Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) are jointly sponsoring a complimentary continuing medical education virtual lecture/podcast for physicians titled A Closer Look at Hereditary Angioedema: Expert Perspectives on Optimal Management. This activity is supported by an educational grant from ViroPharma Incorporated.
