St. Andrews Country Club Hosts the 3rd Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament
St. Andrews Country Club of Boca Raton members teamed up with LPGA Tour player Morgan Pressel this week to raise $405,000 through the 3rd annual 'Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer' Tournament to help fight breast cancer through early detection and treatment. In their third year of hosting the event, the membership has raised $1.15 million, helping Boca Raton Community Hospital purchase the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan that was unveiled today.
The state-of-the-art Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan is 100% digital and handicapped accessible and unveiled by Morgan Pressel, her grandparents, and Aaron Krickstein, former Number 6 player in the world and St. Andrews Tennis Director, the St. Andrews Country Club Membership, and representatives from the Boca Raton Community Hospital with a dramatic ribbon pulling event, complete with pink, biodegradable confetti. The MammoVan will be fully operational and available to be scheduled to visit sites throughout Palm Beach County by February 8, 2010 providing affordable and convenient access to mammograms as well as clinical breast exams and breast health education.
"I am once again privileged to be part of such a caring and giving community. Their participation in the MammoVan unveiling honoring my mother's memory means so much to me," stated Morgan Pressel. "I would like to thank the Morgan & Friends Committee, the St. Andrews Country Club Members and professional staff who have once again done an outstanding job in organizing this event."
Players in the Third Annual Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer Tournament included founder, Morgan Pressel, and her fellow tour professionals, Cristie Kerr, Christina Kim, Bruce Fleisher and Ron Stockton who kicked off a Monday night reception and auctions with over 200 St. Andrews Country Club members, sponsors and representatives from Boca Raton Community Hospital and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in attendance.
On Tuesday morning, five foursomes played nine holes with one of the professional golfers while event attendees gathered around for the unveiling which followed morning play. Immediately following the unveiling, the five pros participated in an informative golf exhibition that offered tips and tricks on chipping, and plenty of jokes.
Roy Schwedelson, President, Board of Governors for St. Andrews Country Club added, "We are all proud of Morgan in all of her achievements and that she has grabbed the opportunity to join with the members of St. Andrews Country Club in giving back to the community."
"The members of St. Andrews Country Club and all those who donated items can be very proud to have been part of the MammoVan purchase and unveiling," said Craig Martin, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager at St. Andrews Country Club. "My professional team and I are pleased and proud to have been part of such a momentous occasion."
