Press Ganey Associates today announced it has and an outpatient survey for use by transplant programs across the country. The surveys' questions were developed by reseadeveloped a comprehensive transplant inpatient surveyrchers and practitioners from Press Ganey with insight from the United Network for Organ Sharing's (UNOS) Transplant Administrators Committee (TAC - which consists of elected transplant administrators representing transplant centers, members of UNOS, in the United States). Alexander Aussi of the University of California San Diego (UCSD) Center for Transplantation moderated the process.
"Gaining insight into satisfaction among organ and tissue transplant patients is extremely important because their journey through the health care system can be very long," said Richard Siegrist, president and CEO, Press Ganey Associates. "The team that developed these surveys worked diligently to create the most comprehensive and specific assessment for this particular patient group. Press Ganey is honored to partner with UNOS on this exciting project."
Approximately 77 people receive an organ transplant every day in the United States, and patients can wait up to five years for an organ such as a kidney. It's important to understand these patients, because often their transplant experience is a long, involved process. Transplant patients require a multitude of tests prior to transplantation and often a lifetime of follow-up care.
"The UNOS TAC team determined that there was a big interest in coming to consensus around a standardized tool for the assessment of transplant patient satisfaction," said Alexander Aussi, RN, BSN, MBA, transplant administrator, UCSD Center for Transplantation. "It made sense to partner with Press Ganey to develop the survey since more than 65% of major transplant centers in the country are Press Ganey clients. We are extremely excited to begin measuring patient satisfaction among transplant patients so that health care organizations can provide them with the best possible care."
