Sexuality publishing portfolio gains key journal

Starting in 2010, Springer will publish the journal Sexuality Research and Social Policy. All aspects of sexual behavior are covered in the journal, including a unique focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender populations. The journal was previously published by the University of California Press.

Sexuality Research and Social Policy is an international, multidisciplinary forum for the publication of original peer-reviewed, state-of-the-art empirical research and theoretical and methodological discussions on sexuality. It includes papers on the implications of this research for policies across the globe regarding sexual health, sexuality education, and sexual rights in diverse communities. The journal also publishes conference reports, book and film reviews, guest editorials and commentaries, and offers special issues on timely topics. Editor-in-chief Gilbert Herdt, PhD, and editor Brian de Vries, PhD, both of San Francisco State University in California, will continue to head an international editorial board comprised of over 40 experts.

Carol Bischoff, Senior Editor of Behavioral Sciences at Springer, said, "We're pleased to work with the editors to bring the journal increased visibility and usage worldwide. The journal is designed as a platform that includes the social policy implications of research on sexuality, a field that continues to advance and grow. Sexuality Research and Social Policy adds another dimension to our growing portfolio in this field."

Dr. Herdt said, "The journal began as a publication of our university's National Sexuality Resource Center. I'm pleased that Springer will use its global resources to help expand the journal's reach to a broader international community of scientists and policymakers."

Sexuality Research and Social Policy will be available quarterly in print and on Springer's online platform www.springerlink.com. Each article will be published individually in Online First- when ready, affording speedy dissemination. Authors have the option of choosing the open access publishing model Springer Open Choice-. Springer begins publication with Volume 7, Number 1 (March 2010) and all back issues will be available online.
