The IKF's (International Kids Fund) Wonderfund™ has established an emergency fund for Haiti's Children called the "Haiti's Children Fund." It will support young Haitian earthquake victims expected to arrive at Jackson Memorial Hospital for life-saving medical care. Donations may be made directly through www.wonderfund.org. The IKF's Wonderfund™, is a program of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, whose mission is to provide life-saving medical care to children from all over the world in need.
"In light of the devastation following the recent earthquake in Haiti, the IKF's Wonderfund™ is mobilizing efforts to assist with the multitude of Haiti's children that are expected to arrive at Jackson Memorial Hospital needing critical care," commented Janelle Prieto, IKF's Wonderfund™ director. "Now more than ever, we are encouraging people to make donations through our Website for Haiti's Children Fund so that we may respond with our vast array of medical expertise in a timely manner," she said.
Marlie Casseus, the young Haitian girl who received life-saving reconstructive surgery to remove a melon-sized, deforming tumor-like growth from her face in 2005, is one of IKF's children in Haiti. She is one of 34 Haitian children who have received critical medical attention through IKF Wonderfund™. "Many of these children are still undergoing treatment, they have limited access to water and food, they need medication and sanitary conditions to survive," continued Prieto. "Our goal is to get them back to Jackson's Holtz Children's Hospital to continue care."
Over the last seven years, IKF's Wonderfund™ has provided medical care to children throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Through the organization, several dozens of children from Haiti have received life-saving medical treatments that they did not have access to in Haiti. The effects of the earthquake will be felt for weeks, months and possibly years. IKF's Wonderfund™ is preparing to provide the much needed immediate medical attention that will be required.
