Enrollment for SCAN Health Plan Arizona exceeds projections in Maricopa County

More than 6,300 Maricopa County residents selected SCAN Health Plan Arizona as their Medicare Advantage Plan (MAPD) for 2010, far exceeding SCAN's enrollment projections. Eligible individuals may continue to join SCAN until March 31, 2010.

SCAN Health Plan Arizona, which began offering MAPD coverage in 2009, is affiliated with more than 6,800 physician locations as well as 29 acute-care hospitals and five specialty hospitals throughout Maricopa County. In late 2009 Scottsdale Healthcare, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center, Chandler Regional Medical Center, and Marcy Gilbert Medical Center became the latest hospitals to join SCAN's provider network.

SCAN's Medicare Advantage Plan includes comprehensive medical coverage with no monthly plan premiums and no deductibles. For SCAN MAPD members in Maricopa County, primary care physician office visit co-payments are just $10. There is no co-payment for annual routine physical exams or preventative screenings. In addition, SCAN offers a generous prescription drug benefit (Medicare Part D), including a low, $5 co-payment for a 31-day supply of preferred generic drugs as well as unlimited coverage for generic drugs.

"Area seniors are quickly discovering the 'SCAN difference,' " said Tom Lescault, president of SCAN Health Plan Arizona. "As a nonprofit health plan with three decades' worth of experience, SCAN continues to focus on those issues that are most important to seniors, including better health and independence … and our customer service is unsurpassed."

Members of SCAN's MAPD plan receive all of the basic benefits traditionally covered under Medicare including doctor visits, hospital care, emergency/urgent care, skilled nursing facility care and more. In addition, members receive routine eye and hearing exams; home-delivered meals as part of an in-home recovery benefit; SCAN On-Call™, a 24-hour nurse advice line; and access to emergency care worldwide.

"Becoming a SCAN member is easier than ever," said Lescault. There are four ways to enroll in SCAN Health Plan Arizona:

  1. Call toll-free 866-490-7226 to enroll over the phone.
  2. Sign up online at www.scanhealthplan.com/arizona/mapd.

  4. Request an in-person visit by calling 866-490-7226 toll-free.

Unlike most Medicare Advantage plans, SCAN has no commercial members, thus allowing the plan to dedicate 100 percent of its energy and programs toward serving older adults across the wide spectrum of aging. Over the past five years, the health plan has doubled its membership thanks to its reputation for member-centric services, competitive benefit plans and a commitment to looking for innovative ways to serve people on Medicare.
