The senior management team of Getinge Canada thought it was important that the company as a whole be a role model for disaster relief and third world support. To that end, a new sterilizer was donated to the St. Joseph's Health System International Outreach Program (Hamilton, ON) for use in Haiti. The sterilizers at the sister hospitals in Haiti were destroyed in the quake. Within the next 2 weeks, a sterilizer is being shipped with other medical supplies to Haiti. One of the company's technicians, Dave Gardner, has volunteered to fly to Haiti to install the sterilizer, to train local people on how to be first responders and provide applications training. "Our employees are outstanding," adds Doug Friesen, President of Getinge Canada Limited.
Becoming a Top Best Small and Medium Employer is a very detailed and competitive process. This national awards program recognizes top employers who have between 50 and 400 employees. This study mirrors the renowned Best Employer in Canada initiative run by partner Hewitt Associates; however, it caters to smaller businesses.
The rankings are determined primarily by using the results from Employee Opinion Surveys. Here, 21 key engagement drivers are detailed and analyzed. The evaluation process also includes the assessment of organization practices and perspectives from the leadership team. This year, more than 200 companies across Canada registered to participate in the study.
