Synergetics launches fully disposable instrument line for retinal surgery

Synergetics USA, Inc. (NASDAQ: SURG), a medical device company that designs, manufactures, and markets innovative microsurgical instruments for ophthalmic and neurosurgical applications, today announced the launch of its newest fully disposable line of hand-held instruments for retinal surgery, Pinnacle 360oTM. The launch occurred at Vail Vitrectomy 2010, a surgical meeting held on March 13 - 17, 2010.

“This fully disposable instrument line assures our customers that their instrument will deliver consistent performance in this demanding application. We are very excited about the launch of this product and believe that it has great potential”

Synergetics’ unique design of the Pinnacle 360oTM product includes an actuation grip that allows the surgeon to approach the retina from any angle. The handle provides the ability to change the tips’ position relative to the retina without performing an awkward maneuver or repositioning the instrument. The handle has the same tactile response from any location on its grip. Its reduced actuation pressure minimizes hand fatigue and its design fits and feels like an extension of the surgeon’s hand.

“This fully disposable instrument line assures our customers that their instrument will deliver consistent performance in this demanding application. We are very excited about the launch of this product and believe that it has great potential,” commented Mr. Hable, the Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
